At Anthony Carnevale Elementary School, approximately 40% of students receive special education services, ranging from Pre-K through 5th grade. The school playground could not be enjoyed by many of these students and two staff members identified an opportunity to make a difference. The school’s physical therapist and occupational therapist teamed up to form a committee to help create a fully inclusive playground. The new Carnevale Elementary School Playground in Providence, Rhode Island, will be a place where children of all abilities can play together safely, build friendships, and promote diversity and acceptance. For children who participate in support services, this will also offer a fun and accessible outdoor area for therapy.
With a nautical design theme, Carnevale’s new inclusive playground includes an ode to the school mascot with a custom dolphin play structure. The playground is flanked by an expansive outdoor track for walking and running, and also includes a soothing sensory area. A large play structure complete with slides, monkey bars, climbers and a play panel is complemented by the Little Tikes Rock’N Ship Glider resembling an adventurous ship. All aboard!
Your donation can help bring an accessible playground to Carnevale Elementary School for all students to learn, grow and have fun together. Thank you for your support!
