Ithaca Montessori School is committed to developing a lifelong love of learning in children, by offering spaces and experiences that foster independence, respect, and responsibility for oneself and others.
To enhance this commitment, IMS is partnering with Unlimited Play to transform their playgrounds to not only be accessible but also welcoming and enjoyable for every child.
There are limited opportunities for children with special needs to attend an inclusive child care center in Tompkins County. IMS has worked to make their school inclusive, and while their interior and driveway are complete, the playgrounds are the last remaining space to make accessible to all abilities.
Poured in place surfacing will allow greater independence throughout the playgrounds for all children, as the current woodchips pose a barrier to children using mobility devices. Inclusive swings, interactive play panels, and musical instruments will promote more socialization and sensory exploration.
IMS is excited to announce that the first phase of their outdoor play transformation will be complete and ready for play by spring 2025. Join IMS and Unlimited Play in supporting the revitalization of the remaining playgrounds to be spaces where every child can learn, play, and grow together.
Complete plans of the entire play space are coming soon!
