Unlimited Play – Universally Accessible Playgrounds

More on this playground

The Jaycees have been an active part of the Ponchatoula community for over 60 years. Our 501c3 non-profit organization is comprised of young active citizens, age 18 to 40, who are engaged and committed to creating positive impact in our community. We find targeted solutions to local issues benefitting our communities, our world and our future. Embracing new ideas, collaboration and diversity, we have the passion and courage to address the critical challenges of our time. We follow the Active Citizen Framework methodology for taking action & providing sustainable solutions through needs-based projects that create measurable results in communities.

We identified the need for an all-needs accessible playground/park in Tangipahoa Parish, almost four years ago when a citizen of our community reached out to one of our members regarding the absence of a sensory park in our parish. Her daughter is Autistic and she reminded us of the many other children in our community who also have special needs, and who could benefit from an all-inclusive type park. She contacted this Jaycees member because she was familiar with our organization’s passion and initiative to solve local challenges. This was the spark that lit the fire in our chapter’s members, and set the wheels in motion to making this vision a reality for Ponchatoula.

Since the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 came into effect, there’s been a growing focus on making parks and recreational facilities “accessible”. In a world where play is an endangered opportunity for kids of all abilities, there’s no better time to build a fantastic playground than right now. Jaycees members recognize more than a one-time donation or service opportunity; we focus on sustainable impact locally and globally. It only takes one active citizen to change the world.
